Opposing progressive liberalism, political correctness, and left-wing social engineering
Back when Don Brash was the leader of the National Party he appointed Wayne Mapp to be the party’s political-correctness eradicator; he even dedicated a portfolio to it. Then along came John-boy Key and tossed it out. At the time Key said political correctness wasn’t an issue; he saw it as just some nutty, far-left stuff which didn’t warrant a special portfolio.
Having blogged on Political Correctness for many years and being aware that it was far more insidious than just some nutty, far-left stuff, I emailed Key about my concerns regarding the subject, and he (or one of his staff) responded saying political correctness was irrelevant. That was my first red flag about Key, and I thought to myself at the time ‘He’s a liberal; only a liberal would say political correctness is irrelevant; only a person who believes in political correctness would say such a thing; only a liberal would not see political correctness as creeping communism.’
John Key, just like David Cameron, has done nothing to curb political correctness. In fact, he has done the opposite; his politically-correct stand on gay marriage is a classic example of this.
But as I mentioned in a post the other day, the tide is turning against David Cameron; people are bailing from his pseudo-Conservative Party to Farage’s UKIP party. And now Lord Ashcroft, a major Tory donor, has come out and stated that most of the bleeding is due to political correctness; people have had a gutful of how daily life is changing.
In respect to how life is changing in the UK, the following article is a very good read; it clearly highlights why people have had a gutful: Alien nation: The new census reveals a Britain that would be unrecognisable even to our grandparents
Lord Ashcroft: voters defecting to Ukip because they are fed up with political correctness
Voters are defecting from the Conservatives to Ukip because they are fed up with political correctness, not because of Europe, Lord Ashcroft said today.
The major Tory donor and Number 10 adviser said Ukip is stealing voters because many are uneasy about "the way life is changing in Britain today", fuelled by unhappiness about immigration and a benefits culture.
Amid polls showing a surge of support for Ukip, Lord Ashcroft commissioned new research showing 12 per cent of Conservative voters would side with Ukip at the next election. Half of those turning to Ukip are former Tories, he found.
It also showed that just seven per cent of Ukip voters say Europe is the single most important issue for them. It ranks behind economic growth, welfare, immigration and the deficit.
However, he said Ukip's general outlook, rather than policies, is driving support.
"Certainly, those who are attracted to UKIP are more preoccupied than most with immigration, and will occasionally complain about Britain’s contribution to the EU or the international aid budge," Lord Ashcroft wrote on his ConservativeHome blog.
"But these are often part of a greater dissatisfaction with the way they see things going in Britain: schools, they say, can’t hold nativity plays or harvest festivals any more; you can’t fly a flag of St George any more; you can’t call Christmas Christmas any more; you won’t be promoted in the police force unless you’re from a minority; you can’t wear an England shirt on the bus; you won’t get social housing unless you’re an immigrant; you can’t speak up about these things because you’ll be called a racist; you can’t even smack your children.
"All of these examples, real and imagined, were mentioned in focus groups by UKIP voters and considerers to make the point that the mainstream political parties are so in thrall to the prevailing culture of political correctness that they have ceased to represent the silent majority."
He identified the typical Ukip voters thinking "Britain is changing for the worse". Read more

Great post Terry, and
Great post Terry, and congrats on writing to John Key, although the outcome was only as expected.
The fool just does not get it.
He and his clueless liberal hangers on are an orchestra of smug self centered violinists fiddling while NZ burns.
Redbaiter, I agree!
Redbaiter, I agree!
You forgot to mention doing
Red, you forgot to mention doing the gangnam style dance as well
The tragic reality is that
The tragic reality is that after finally having seen off Helen Clark, we have replaced her with a terpsichorean jackanapes, who out of a combination of political naivete and sheer indifference, would rather mince his way down a catwalk or dance the Gangnam jig or participate in a mock gay "marriage" on a radio show. What an utter disgrace the man and his party are.
I take it you don't like him;
I take it you don't like him; you are somewhat not impressed with him, are you?
Sickening isn't it?
Sickening isn't it?
The mock gay marriage ceremony was even worse.
Yes, the guy is shocking.
Yes, the guy is shocking. While the country falls apart, the prick is dancing and doing mock-gay marriages. I think the guy has this deluded idea he is another Obama. I guess he is, the children will just love him and that's his target market, just like children are Obama's target market.
Key is the worst leader nz
Key is the worst leader nz has ever had.The damage this nutter has caused will be far reaching. What,s the bet he will not stand at the next election?
I've got a feeling you're are
I've got a feeling you're are right about that. The real Key is coming out more and more and maybe this is because he doesn't intend being around for long.
I think that Key's handing
I think that Key's handing over of our country to part-maoris, and his not dismantling racist laws and rules, confirms that he intends to be not living here in the future. He won't want his own kids to be here trying to live amongst the carnage he's creating,
But, Barry, I really don't
But, Barry, I really don't understand why he is creating such carnage? I really think he believes he's doing good. But don't you find it disturbing that he still does well in the polls?
Terry, I think Key is a fool.
Terry, I think Key is a fool. But surely he's not a big enough fool to believe that he's doing good! I think it's distressing that he's so popular in the polls - it seems a sad commentary on NZers' judgement. Perhaps they look at the other MPs and just shrug in hopelessness. He comes across as an intellectual pygmy. My enduring memories of how awful he is as pretend PM are 1) him with Sharples and Turia and 2) him with Jackson and Tamihere! I don't know why he's doing most of the things he's doing. Some people say they think all his ugly part-maori stuff, for example, is because he'll do ANYTHING if he thinks there's a vote in it for him. Do you think it could really be that simple? If yes, is that corruption do you think?
Barry, I think that about
Barry, I think that about sums it up
Yes, it is corruption; it is democracy failing.
"Perhaps they look at the other MPs and just shrug in hopelessness"
Without question this is what's happening.
For a long time, I could not
For a long time, I could not fathom why Key got his party to support the Clark-by-proxy Bradford Smacking Bill. Then I realized, Key believes it is good policy and totally agrees with it. It's no more complicated than that.
Yes, it really isn't any more
Yes, it really isn't any more complicated than that; he is a pc, nanny-state liberal through and through.
I am knew here and it's good
I am knew here and it's good to read these comments because Key is really screwing this country big time. I think he is giving the Maori Party what they want is because the Maori Party represents 38 billion dollars in assets. Key is a money man worked in Wall Street and was in charge of derivatives for Europe Merril Lynch, selling those worthless loans to Ireland and the rest of Europe. He is use to screwing people. Getting back to Maori, when Key drops out, rest assured he'll be knocking on their door for "payback" for making Corporate Iwi richer. It's a win win situation for Corporate Iwi and Key and National because of their votes and for Key later. It is a loosing situation for every kiwi hard working family who Key doesn't care about. I don't believe he is that popular. I think it is the MSM just distorting things.
Jack, yes Key is screwing us
Jack, yes Key is screwing us big time.
"Getting back to Maori, when Key drops out, rest assured he'll be knocking on their door for "payback" for making Corporate Iwi richer. It's a win win situation for Corporate Iwi and Key and National because of their votes and for Key later."
I have never thought about it that way, and maybe you have a point there.
