Stuff ran an article this morning titled ‘Campbell assumes Henry's TV complaints mantle’ which reported that complaints to the Broadcasting Standards Authority had dropped since Paul Henry had departed.
“Thanks to Paul Henry's brief failed foray into the world of Australian breakfast TV, broadcasting complaints dropped in the last year.
The controversial motormouth was almost single-handedly responsible for the record 250 complaints to the Broadcasting Standards Authority in 2010/11.
Last year that number dropped to 195, according to the annual report.
And only 10 per cent of complaints were upheld last year - the lowest figure since the authority was established in 1989.
The mantle of most-complained-about, formerly the territory of Henry's Breakfast and Outrageous Fortune, fell to TV3 current affairs programme Campbell Live this time round.
John Campbell and his crew drew 26 complaints - more than three times their tally from the year before - seven of which were upheld.”
Firstly, if we look at the wording ‘Paul Henry's brief failed foray’ and ‘The controversial motormouth,’ etc., we can see it’s written by a biased, non-objective liberal. But more importantly, the irony is stark; the 250 people that complained about Henry would have had to have been liberal as conservatives simply don’t complain about free-speech opinions, and now they are targeting one of their own, John Campbell.
Before discussing this further, a look at a couple of Henry’s greatest moments are called for. The first is his funny ‘dickshit’ comments, and the second is his Governor-General comments that got him fired.
Liberals, the very people who complain about free speech, love free speech; the very people who complain about the odd crass comment Rush Limbaugh makes, just love the crass vitriol that comes out of Bill Maher’s mouth; the very people that complain about the free speech on Fox News, just love liberal, free speech such as this coming from far-left loon Ed Shultz of MSNBC’s The Ed Show.
Conservatives are often portrayed by the left as humourless, religious zealots. While this may be true in certain minority sectors, for the most part it is simply not true. If I were a humourless, religious zealot, for example, I don’t think I would enjoy watching Family Guy, but I do. I personally find that show to be very funny even though it is offensive and liberal through and through.
The fundamental difference between conservatives and liberals is the fact that liberals only like free speech if it is liberal free speech; whereas, conservatives value all free speech because they understand that without free speech the human race is nothing; even Ed Schultz’s hate-speech vitriol is better than a one-sided, communist form of free speech that liberals espouse. The fact that Family Guy is a Fox Network show clearly illustrates this point.
